Construction Technology and the Psychology of User Adoption

Jay Snyder, President, Big Blue Innovations

Jay SnyderWinning with Technology - The "people" complexity
Contractors have historically struggled to get the most out of the technology they've purchased.  In many ways, this has earned skepticism for the impact that technology can have to improve industry pressures like the labor shortage, compressed schedules, increased costs of putting work in place, and material availability.  The key to winning with tech is to realize that it's a people problem.  Regardless of the technology you onboard, it has to be effectively and fully adopted by your teams.  Ultimately, the attitude employees have toward technology is the determining factor, and there are key things to understand and approaches to take, to achieve employee interest, support and engagement of technology.

After this session, you will be able to answer or have a point of view on the following:

  • What are the employee personas/profiles regarding technology that you should be aware of?
  • How do these manifest in hurdles or advantages to win with technology?
  • How can you improve employee engagement and interest to leverage technology in a game-changing way?
  • What are keys to creating an environment that maximizes the benefits of technology?

Greg DuykaAI for Construction Takeoff through On-Screen Takeoff with Boost

Greg Duyka, Product Demo Engineer/Senior Product Trainer, ConstructConnect

During this session, participants will have the opportunity to see the latest in Search Engine technology to help contractors find and download the images for projects that fit their specific profile and then use AI technology with Boost to eliminate a significant amount of time for the takeoff process.

Special Guests

UNCC K-Niner on top of dirt UNCC K-Niner Robot Dog,

Stephanie F. Pilkington, Ph.D. Assistant Professor | Construction Engineering & Management, University of North Carolina at Charlotte

The quadrupedal unmanned ground vehicle nicknamed the K-Niner Robot dog is designed to better assess damaged structures in the wake of natural disasters. K-Niner will collect data regarding the failures of building methods and materials during extreme situations. Researchers will utilize this data to prevent those failures in the future. Dr. Stephanie Pilkington, an assistant professor in the department of engineering technology and construction management, leads the research group in charge of this project known as PhDisaster. She also coordinates the majority of the K-Niner project with her graduate research assistant Sai Bharadwaj.
