About Chad Kimes

Chad Kimes was appointed as the N.C. Department of Transportation's Division 3 engineer in October 2019. Prior to this role, he served the division as deputy engineer. In his role as Division 3 engineer, Chad manages planning, project development, maintenance activities and construction projects in Brunswick, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender and Sampson counties.

Kimes has also had a long history with NCDOT. He began working at the agency in 1989 while attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He became a full-time employee in 1994. He has held various NCDOT positions over the course of his career, including deputy engineer, project engineer, county maintenance engineer, district engineer, resident engineer, division operation engineer and division construction engineer.
