These safety procedures usually begin with a call to a state one-call notification center prior to excavation

Webinar One: Best Safety Practices for Contractors Engaged in Utility Excavation

In this session, attendees will learn the importance of contacting a one-call notification center along with some other best practices, including proper documentation and record keeping, that must be considered throughout the construction of utility infrastructure. Attendees also will become familiarized with the resources that are available through AGC memberships, the Common Ground Alliance, federal agencies, and local one-call notification centers.

Sam Hall brings more than two decades of industry experience and a strong regulatory background to his new position as Vice President, where he will lead the DPI’s development of stakeholder metrics to drive efficiencies in the damage prevention system. In this role, Hall will also collaborate with industry leaders and key CGA committees to create a peer-reviewed accreditation process.

Prior to joining CGA, Hall served as Senior Program Manager for the U.S. Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) for more than 15 years, actively engaging with damage prevention stakeholders from the local level to internationally. Hall additionally brings years of experience with data management and analytics in the private sector, as well as in local and federal government, including the development and implementation of metrics and evaluation mechanisms for grant programs, public awareness programs, emergency management systems and state excavation damage prevention law enforcement programs.

Webinar Two: Legal Liabilities for Utility Excavation Damages

In this session, attendees will learn legal liabilities they could face if they commit damages and what federal laws and regulations they could be in violation of for failure to adhere to all safety practices. Speakers include an AGC member that handles safety and PHMSA community liaison officer.
