Hall of Fame Awards

Doug Harper, Harper General Contractors, Inc.

Doug Harper

Doug is what he has referred to as a multi-generational “Greenvillian.” Born and raised in Greenville, SC, he currently is the Chairman at Harper General Contractors, a company that is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year! Harper Corporation was founded in 1950 by Doug’s grandfather and father, so naturally Doug was going on jobsites before he was old enough to go to school. Immediately upon graduating from Clemson University with a Building Science degree in 1974, he started at Harper as a project manager. Doug rose through the ranks and became President in 1985, a position he held for close to 30 years.

Now as Chairman of Harper, Doug remains active in the company providing direction and focusing on developing and maintaining relationships with new and long-term clients.

Through the years he has served in leadership roles in many industry, charitable, and community organizations including Upstate SC Alliance, Clemson University, and Carolinas AGC. Doug has served on the CAGC Legislative Committee, was the career development council chairman in 1995, the Upstate SC Chairman in 1997, and Building Division Chair in 1999.

Doug is married to his wife, Ren, and has 2 daughters, Ashley & Taylor. He also has 5 grandchildren. He is an avid biker and hiker and has traveled to some amazing places, but Greenville, SC is where he calls home.

Mark Johnnie, Balfour Beatty

Mark Johnnie

Mark Johnnie is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Balfour Beatty’s civils business. Mark began working with Balfour Beatty in 1998 and oversees operation and delivery of highway and bridge projects throughout the United States. Mark graduated from Oregon State University and holds two bachelor of science degrees – one in construction engineering management and the other in business administration.

The Balfour Beatty website lists the employment ‘start date’ for each company leader, along with the words “Relentless Ally Since,” and not only has Mark been a relentless ally for Balfour Beatty, but for Carolinas AGC, as well. Since his involvement with CAGC began, Mark has served on the NC bridge committee, the NCDOT/CAGC joint committee, the membership committee, the audit committee, and various other committees. In 2018, Mark joined the CAGC Board of Directors and served as chair in 2023. One of the Carolinas AGC staff members stated “Mark was and still is a huge advocate for the staff of Carolinas AGC. No matter how busy he was or what he had going on, he would always take the time to make sure that other CAGC members knew all the hard work that went into everything that we do.”

Mark has been a consistent member of Business NC’s Annual Power List for North Carolina’s Most Influential Leaders, along with Ty Edmondson, Dave Simpson and dozens of other CAGC members.

During his free time, he loves spending time with his lovely wife Patricia, their three children and two grandchildren.  He also is an avid cyclist and currently serves as Past President of the Cape Fear Cyclists.

Donnie Oldham, Sanford Contractors, Inc.

Donnie Oldham

Donnie Oldham is President of Sanford Contractors, Inc, a company that was founded in 1969 by his father, Norman T. Oldham, as Sanford Grading Company, and remains family-owned and operated to this day.

Donnie’s involvement began early. He started working in the family business at just 14 years old. Alongside his brother Mark, he spent his young adulthood learning the day-to-day operations and gaining a strong foundation in the industry. In 1975, he joined the company full-time and has remained committed to its growth and values ever since. He stepped into the role of President in 1989 and has led Sanford Contractors with a steady focus on integrity, quality, and service.

Under Donnie’s leadership, Sanford Contractors has maintained a longstanding relationship with Carolinas AGC since the 70s. Donnie has volunteered his time over the years to the NCDOT/CAGC joint committee, the NC Legislative committee, and the Board of Directors when he served as Chair of the Highway-Heavy Division. He also encourages the Sanford Contractors team to get involved in an industry organization, believing that collaboration benefits the entire construction community.

Donnie and his wife, Susan, have been married since 1980 and have two children, Richard, who serves as Senior Vice President at Sanford Contractors and Jennifer, and they also have four grandchildren, Norman, Evelyn, Anne Blakely, and Harry.
