About the Course
This course equips attendees with a comprehensive set of practical scheduling skills applicable to real-world construction projects. They will be able to configure Microsoft Project with the correct settings to function as a reliable Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling tool, including managing auto-scheduling, split in-progress tasks, and status dates properly. Attendees will be able to build a well-structured project schedule from the ground up, including calculating realistic activity durations based on production rates and crew makeup rather than guesswork, establishing proper logic relationships between activities, and organizing work using an appropriate Work Breakdown Structure. They will understand how to set and maintain a baseline, perform meaningful schedule updates using the Status Date function, and conduct quality checks before submitting updates to owners or stakeholders. Attendees will also be able to identify and analyze the critical path, recognize common scheduling pitfalls such as missing logic, inappropriate constraints, and negative lags, and apply corrective actions when the project deviates from plan. Additionally, they will be able to review contract documents to identify schedule-related requirements, notice obligations, weather provisions, and liquidated damage clauses, and understand how those provisions affect their rights and responsibilities when delays or changes occur on a project.
