The Carolinas AGC Construction Excellence Awards recognize high-achieving construction projects that distinguished themselves in the Pinnacle Awards judging process. While not selected as Pinnacle Award recipients, these projects rose to the top of a highly competitive field and were identified by judges as exceptional examples of quality construction, strong execution, and industry impact across the Carolinas.

Selected by the same independent panel of judges who evaluate the Pinnacle Awards, Construction Excellence Award winners represent outstanding work that reflects the depth, strength, and talent of the Carolinas construction industry.

Carolinas AGC is proud to honor five projects with Construction Excellence Awards in 2025. Winners were recognized at the Pinnacle Awards Ceremony held during CAGC’s 105th Annual Convention in Aruba in January 2026.

Maeve

Maeve

Raleigh, NC
General Contractor: W. M. Jordan Company

Maeve is a striking 20-story multifamily tower in Raleigh. With its sleek precast concrete façade and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, Maeve brings modern elegance to the city’s southern gateway. This beauty came with several complex challenges, including soil tests that revealed underground rock formations, requiring full-site blasting with mats—no small feat in a dense urban setting. Maeve’s most innovative feature is its use of the GateLite system, a lean architectural concrete skin that integrates thermal, vapor, and air barriers.

I-40 Widening: I-440 to Cornwallis Road

I-40 Widening: I-440 to Cornwallis Road

Wake and Johnston counties, NC
General Contractor: S. T. Wooten Corporation

This project, originally slated to be a four-year, $360 million dollar project, was extended by the owner to nearly six years and $440 million dollars. Challenges included an NCDOT cash shortfall in which the S. T. Wooten team kept the project going-- even without payment for five months-- and relocation of a cemetery and a gas transmission line. This corridor of I-40, which historically was a parking lot for commuters and commercial vehicles in both directions, now sees daily traffic patterns run smoothly and congestion virtually eliminated.

SCDOT US 17A/21 Bridge Replacement Over the CSX Railroad

SCDOT US 17A/21 Bridge Replacement Over the CSX RailroadYemassee, SC
General Contractor: Crowder Constructors

In September 2023, a freight train derailed and hit the US 17A/21 bridge which spans three CSX railroad lines in Yemassee. The existing bridge was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced. Because this is a hurricane evacuation route and the railroad is an active freight and Amtrak line, the Governor issued an emergency declaration for expedited federal funding to complete the replacement in a significantly shorter time than a traditional project. Crowder’s team demolished the old bridge and constructed a new bridge, which was opened to traffic less than a year after the initial incident.

Bryant Farms Road Extension

Blythe Farms Road Extension

Charlotte, NC
General Contractor: Blythe Development

This project extended Bryant Farms Road approximately a half mile from Elm Lane to Rea Road in south Charlotte. Serving one of the region’s fastest-growing areas, the project was essential in alleviating traffic congestion, increasing mobility options, and enhancing safety. This was the City of Charlotte’s first progressive design-build project—a landmark collaboration between Blythe Development, lead designer RK&K, and the City of Charlotte that improved efficiency, reduced change orders, and enhanced design responsiveness.

Emergency Demolition of Damaged S-2-105 (Old Vaucluse Road) Bridge Over I-20 and Repair of Roadway Near Mile Marker 13

Emergency Demolition of Damaged S-2-105 (Old Vaucluse Road) Bridge Over I-20 and Repair of Roadway Near Mile Marker 13

Aiken County, SC
General Contractor: United Infrastructure Group, Inc.

In the early morning of June 14, 2025, I-20 became the scene of a catastrophic incident after a gasoline tanker truck collided with a support column beneath the Old Vaucluse Road overpass and caught fire. The intense heat caused the bridge to collapse across all eastbound lanes. SCDOT called upon United Infrastructure, and by mid-morning, demolition equipment was delivered. The bridge was then fully demolished and removed, and just 36 hours after the collision, I-20 was reopened in both directions.

Congratulations!
