The Department projects that it will let contracts for approximately $650 million in Transportation Improvement Program projects, $220 million in resurfacing contracts, $220 million in secondary road construction, $167 million in N. C. Moving Ahead projects, and $200 million in projects funded by federal GARVEE bonds. The Department projects that it will let contracts for approximately $1.6 billion in Transportation Program projects in calendar year 2010. In addition, recently approved federal rail funding grants in the amount of $545 million will also provide some additional market opportunity primarily in structure and roadway construction work. This work will be developed and let to contract over the next several years. The NC Turnpike Authority of NCDOT continues to develop toll road projects for the Monroe Bypass and the Garden Parkway [west of Charlotte]. These both will be design/build projects. Advertisement for lettings will occur late this year as the project development process allows and the bond markets are favorable for selling the necessary bonds.
