Highway Markets Outlook

North Carolina

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has provided its current projections for work availability for 2007.

The Department projects that it will let contracts for approximately $650 million in Transportation Improvement Program projects, $220 million in resurfacing contracts, $220 million in secondary road construction, $167 million in N. C. Moving Ahead projects, and $200 million in projects funded by federal GARVEE bonds.

In addition, the N. C. Turnpike Authority anticipates it may let $200-250 million contracts this year with all anticipated to be design-build contracting.

This prediction can be impacted if NCDOT encounters unanticipated difficulties in obtaining needed environmental permits or encounters dramatic increase in project costs based upon inflation. Members can now follow the issues being discussed with NCDOT as well as track NCDOT's progress in moving towards a Design-Build process . A new feature at NCDOT's website is a searchable Directory of Transportation Firms . On this site you can search for all transportation firms that work with NCDOT by location, type of work, prequalified or subcontractor, DBE, etc., and can be provided addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, fax numbers, etc.
