When: Wednesday, February 17, 2021
Where: Virtual via Zoom Webinar
Join us for our first South Carolina Virtual Luncheon of 2021! Dr. Joseph Burgett with Clemson University will give the keynote address on Drone Technology for Contractors - Benefits, Limitation and the Future of Drones in the Construction Industry.
There is a lot of misunderstanding in the industry about the rules, benefits and barriers of using Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly referred to as “drones” for construction. Dr. Joseph Burgett of Clemson University will speak to us about how off-the-shelf drones are being using to support jobsite activities and provide added value to clients. He will talk through the specifics of what is needed to start using this tool and the benefits real-world contractors are getting from using this technology. Dr. Burgett will also tell us what we need to know about the new FAA rules that’s significantly expanded how drones can be used.
Dr. Burgett is an Associate Professor in the Nieri Family Department of Construction Science and Management at Clemson University. He teaches undergraduate, graduate and professional courses on drone application in the built environment. He is a General Contractor by trade and has worked extensively with the SCDOT. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles on drone technology, including titles such as “Accuracy of Drone Image Based Volumetric Surveys,” “Evaluating the Use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to Perform Low-Slope Roof Inspections,” and “SCiDUC: Solution to Address Common Challenges of State Agency Drone Deployment.” Dr. Burgett was also named Clemson University’s 2018 Master Teacher which is its highest honor for teaching.
