NC 12 BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS & CAROLINA BRIDGE EARN TOP INDUSTRY HONORS

CHARLOTTE –February 2009 – A bridge replacements project on NC 12 on Ocracoke Island, NC has earned the 2008 “Best Highway-Heavy Project ” Pinnacle Award from Carolinas Associated General Contractors (AGC). Orangeburg, SC-based Carolina Bridge Company performed as General Contractor on the project.

Because the site on Ocracoke Island was accessible only by boat or plane, 750 truckloads of equipment and materials had to be brought entirely by ferry. NCDOT’s Chief Engineer has called this project the best example of coordination he had ever seen.

The annual Carolinas AGC Pinnacle Awards are the most prestigious recognition in the Carolinas construction industry. Member firms can be honored for their performance as a company, or for a specific project.

As the largest AGC chapter in the nation with 2,800 member firms, Carolinas AGC’s mission is to build its members’ businesses through workforce development, business development and profit management. More than 75% of commercial and industrial construction (buildings, highways/bridges, utility facilities) in both North and South Carolina is performed or supported by Carolinas AGC members.
