SALEM ELECTRIC NAMED BEST SUBCONTRACTOR IN THE CAROLINAS
Salem Electric Company, Winston-Salem, NC
CHARLOTTE –February 2007 – Winston-Salem-based Salem Electric Company received the prestigious 2006 Best Subcontractor Pinnacle Award from Carolinas Associated General Contractors (AGC).
Salem 's 300 employees specialize in commercial, industrial and healthcare work. In an era of high turnover, one-third of Salem 's employees have been on staff more than ten years, and 50 have more than 20 years' tenure. An example of Salem 's loyalty to employees is the firm's cultural encouragement of mentoring to younger staff.
One general contractor customer remarked on Salem 's exceptional supervisors, project managers, and “stand-out field personnel.” Second-tier subs who have worked with Salem stressed that the firm “plays everything straight.” They noted a “partnership attitude” with not only their own subs and suppliers but also with the entire community.
The Best Subcontractor/Specialty Contractor award was presented to Salem Electric Company at the Carolinas AGC Annual Convention in St. Thomas , Virgin Islands , January 26, 2007 .
As the largest AGC chapter in the nation with 3,000 member firms, Carolinas AGC's mission is to build its members' businesses through workforce development, business development, profit management, and CompTrust AGC –a self-insured workers' compensation trust. More than 75% of commercial and industrial construction (buildings, highways/bridges, utility facilities) in both North and South Carolina is performed or supported by Carolinas AGC members.
