Charlotte , NC March, 2006 - For the second consecutive year , the highest elected office of the national Associated General Contractors (AGC) Executive Committee is held by a Carolinas contractor. At the National AGC convention in Palm Springs , CA in March, outgoing national president Sam Hunter of TA Loving Co., Goldsboro , NC passed the gavel to fellow Carolinian Harry Mashburn of Mashburn Construction Company, Columbia , SC.

“It is highly unusual for a local chapter to have such dominance at the national level, especially since AGC tries to maintain a geographically balanced Board,” says Steve Gennett, President and CEO of Carolinas AGC. “By having Harry Mashburn lead National AGC on the coattails of Sam Hunter, the profile of Carolinas AGC is raised enormously.” Hunter will remain on the national board for one more year as immediate past-president.

Mashburn began his career as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers more than 40 years ago. He founded Mashburn Construction in 1976. Both Mashburn and Hunter have served in numerous leadership roles at the local and national level of AGC.

As the largest AGC chapter in the nation with 3,000 member firms, Carolinas AGC's mission is to build its members' businesses through workforce development, business development, and profit management. More than 75% of commercial and industrial construction (buildings, highways/bridges, utility facilities) in both North and South Carolina is performed or supported by Carolinas AGC members.
