Mr. Law has nearly twenty years of construction industry experience, reinforced by fifteen years of experience in the architectural and engineering design of construction projects. In addition to having designed in architecture and its various allied engineering disciplines, Mr. Law progressed thru the construction industry in a number of positions, beginning with being a tradesman while in college, thru assistant superintendent and lead superintendent and general superintendent, to project engineer and assistant project manager, to project manager or construction manager or MEP coordinator. He has served in A/E corporate staff capacities, in Contractors' corporate staff capacities, and in Owner's Representative capacities. He has also been a self-employed design professional and a self-employed construction management professional. His broad application systems familiarity, coupled with his comprehensive multidisciplinary understanding of the construction design and delivery processes, allows him to bring a rare combination of insight and expertise to this subject.

Description:  The Contract Documents for construction projects consistently require a variety of documentation tasks, ranging from the Submittals that begin the documentation process (product and materials data, personnel qualifications, coordination of trades installations, test reports, shop drawings, etc.), to the Close Out Documents, that end the project (such as training materials, final inspections, operation and maintenance manuals, and final payment requests). In between, there are many other documents that may be required, along with other documents that, while they may not be required by the Contract Documents, provide an invaluablly tangible record of the day-to-day conduct of the work. Any of these documents, both required and not, may have a significant influence upon the degree of success that is met in completing the work, upon the project costs and duration, upon dispute resolution, and (even, perhaps) upon the possibility of follow up work. We will discuss the various techniques to effectively organize, generate, compile, and correlate construction project documentation using different recording methodologies, whether thru "in-house" efforts, or, by using outside resources. Learn how to obtain the maximum immediate and long-term benefits from maintaining complete construction project records while avoiding having record keeping take over the management of a project. We will also explore the manner in which smart construction project record keeping can make the lessons of past projects more readily available for use in preparing for new projects.
