Project SuperVISION® Curriculum Undergoes Rewrite

This is the first in a series of articles about the Carolinas AGC Project SuperVISION® program.

What is Project SuperVISION?

The Carolinas AGC Project SuperVISION concept was created in the late 1980’s. The consensus among members and staff was to implement a comprehensive education and certification program designed to develop and nurture Professional Construction Supervisors. This process included developing instructional materials in a way that had never been done before– involving supervisors and construction companies in all phases of the design. This gave class attendees assurance that they’d receive up-to-date information reflecting real construction conditions and circumstances.

Keeping Project SuperVISION Fresh

Flash forward to 2008– Carolinas AGC Board of Directors approved funding to allow sweeping changes to and a complete rewrite of the Project SuperVISION materials. The first of the five 40-hour courses to be rewritten is the lead course: Professional Construction Supervisor. The new materials include a comprehensive illustrated student guide and a detailed instructor guide.

An added feature of the new program is the inclusion of a complete set of prints and specifications for an actual construction project that includes all aspects of construction: highway, bridge, utility, building, and work with specialty (sub) contractors. Katherine Peele, Vice-President, Managing Principal for LS3P Associates in Raleigh, NC was instrumental in Carolinas AGC’s ability to incorporate this unique feature. Peele worked with Stroud Pence & Associates (Raleigh, NC) Dewberry (Raleigh), CLH Design (Cary, NC), Cheatham and Associates (Wilmington), and Associate Superintendent Mike Burris of Wake County Public School System to gain permission for CAGC to use the plans and specs for the Project SuperVISION program. Many thanks to each of you!
