Advanced Electrical Topics

This series of stand-alone Advanced Electrical Modules may be used either in conjunction with Electrical levels One through Four; as continuing education or advanced study; or as the fifth level of a five year Electrical Apprenticeship Program.

Advanced Electrical Topics Volume 1

  • Advanced Electronic Theory
    Introduces the solid-state world of digital electronics including counter and register circuits.
  • Voice and Data Systems
    Covers the installation and termination of telephone and data systems.
  • Busses and Networks
    Covers the theory of operation of different types of busses and networks used in today’s modern data systems.
  • Fiber Optics
    Explains the Theory of Operations of fiber optic systems, how they are constructed, and the different types of splicing and testing methods used in today’s systems.
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
    Covers the hardware and software used in modern programmable logic control systems. Also covers wiring and testing techniques.
  • Medical Systems
    Covers electrical safety procedures that are specific to medical systems.
  • TV and Antenna Systems
    Covers all aspects of a cable TV system including the distribution system, installation and testing techniques and antenna systems.

Advanced Electrical Topics Volume 2

  • Medium Voltage
    Introduces types of medium voltage equipment and the safety procedures required when working near or on this type of equipment.
  • Power Quality
    Includes an explanation of power quality, causes of harmonics and equipment used to ensure good power quality.
  • Energy Management Systems
    Covers various types of computer-controlled energy management systems, as well as specific types of energy-efficient electric equipment and controls.
  • Traffic Signals
    Cover the design, installation procedures and equipment used for traffic signals.
  • Sound and Signal Systems
    Includes sound, nurse call, clock, access control and security systems.
  • Process and Distributed Control Systems
    Covers all aspects of distribution control systems including theory, design and equipment.
  • Advanced Test Equipment
    Includes types and application of test equipment used in the electrical industry.
