State Launches Statewide HUB Certification Program
The state on July 1 launched a new program designed to streamline the certification process for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs). The Statewide Uniform Certification program went “live” last week with the idea of reducing redundancy in certifying minority-, disabled- and women-owned businesses, as well as creating a database of those businesses.
Historically, businesses seeking the HUB designation have had to go through several government bureaucracies to be certified. "This initiative will expand opportunities for minority-, disabled- and women-owned businesses to participate in state and local government contracts," Gov. Beverly Perdue said in a statement. "We trust it will help the state achieve, and hopefully exceed, its aspirational goal of at least 10 percent of all state government contracts being awarded to HUB firms."
